Victoria Falls

With a 4 am start we flew to Victoria Falls. Late afternoon we set off on a sunset cruise on the Zambesi. Drinks and nibbles included.

This was our welcoming party.

This morning we went into the park to view the falls. Had to hire some raincoats as some areas were a tad wet. An amazing sight.

Dr Livingston I presume.

Victoria Falls - Some parts were too misty to get a good view

Brian in our hired for $2 raincoat. Not much more than an enlarged Pak & Save supermarket bag with a hood.

Food Finds

A gorge below the falls where they were bungy jumping over the  Zambezi River

Our hotel which was  8 minutes walking distance to the falls. Unfortunately we only had one night there.

Cape Town 3 The Peninsula & Cape of Good Hope

Cape Town Day 3 The Peninsula & Cape of Good Hope

After our trip up Table Mountain we negotiated with our friendly taxi driver Peter to take us on a day trip around the peninsula to the Cape of a Good Hope National park.
We travelled down the Atlantic side of the peninsula and back up the Indian Ocean side.
The National park was quite rocky with a variety of flora and fauna including some ostriches and proteas in abundance. Walked up a hill or two for viewpoints down rocky cliffs and sea views.

He also took us around a black township in Hout, locking the car doors before we entered. Houses were most made of corrugated iron and recycled materials. Very basic. They had running water and communal toilets. A lot of the people travel to the city to work.
Didn't feel quite right to take photos but you can probably find google images on these townships.

Cape Town Day 2 Table Mountain

On the way up. We're fortunate the cloud cleared so went up in the morning and spent an hour or more wandering around the trails on top. Had just finished when cloud and rain descended upon us so good timing all round.

View from the top

A hyrax. These furry creatures were everywhere up the top.

On the way down

Walked around the downtown area looking at the art and craft markets. Came across this  group performing in the street. Following this we went to The Slave Museum which showed the history of slaves in Cape Town. The museum was originally a place where slaves were kept in appalling conditions.

Cape Town Day 1 The Waterfront

On the Waterfront Cape Town Just arrived. Alleviating the jet lag.

Came across this band as we walked down to the Waterfront. They made a great rhythmic
sound.  Will have to work out the movie part of my camera to capture the sound as well.

More music outside the shopping centre. The whole waterfront area is full of restaurants,
bars and shops. Very good browsing and consuming.
